What’s the Difference Between HTTP and HTTPS?
HTTP is short for Hypertext Transfer Protocol and is the foundation of data communication for the web. But it’s not secure. HTTP, sends data like login details or payment information, in un-secured text format. I think of it being the equivalent of posting payment details on a post card, which anyone can read before delivering it to the company requesting payment. Unfortunately those intercepting your payment or log in details aren't wearing nice Red outfits driving around with their black and white cat. They are criminals.
HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure and is the encrypted version. It uses SSL or TLS to protect data in transit. It's more like writing your payment details in a code only the other person can understand and posting it in a letter so that it can not be read on the way.
HTTPS keeps customer information private and safe when browsing or buying online.
